M'Eclipse essays My windows were down, and the breeze from the road felt nice on a hot day. I slowly depressed the pedal to the floor, so my clutch seemed to be operating correctly. The clutch had worn out earlier, and I had waited an agonizing month and a day while it was in the shop. My 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse was back on the road, and I felt good. I had little on my mind as I rolled up to a red light at the intersection of Highway 79 South and Margarita Road in Temecula. I was waiting in the outside left turn lane heading eastbound, unaware that what I would do next would affect the rest of my life. An Eclipse of the same model year of mine pulled up beside me in the inside left turn lane. Once he completed his stop and we were side by side, he decided to rev his engine. I answered his unspoken question by revving my engine, too. I knew the light would turn green in a short moment, so I gripped the steering wheel tightly. I had my car in first gear with my left foot throbbing on the clutch pedal and my right foot anxious to hit the accelerator pedal. I was ready for the light when it came, and I took off as soon as the green arrow lit up. I realized that I was quickly gaining vantage over my opponent, and began to gain a decent distance ahead of him. I felt surprised when I realized that my car overtook his, considering that his silver Eclipse was adorned with AEM cold air intake stickers, so I figured that his car would be faster than mine. My Eclipse, on the other hand, is a sleek Burgundy coupe, with no stickers or modifications. At the next intersection, he pulled up next to me again and suggested that we should race on Wolf Store Road, which is a service road behind department stores. I agreed, so we headed over to our starting line. We lined up on the massive, empty road, and he quickly began the count. We each took off again, except this time my car was the one lagging behind.
